Test Administration Details and FAQs

Is your network ready for the transition to digital testing?

Fall 2023 PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9

The testing window for the fall 2023 digital PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9 will be October 2–October 31. Districts and schools will be able to administer the PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9 on as many days of the testing window as needed. For example, a district or school that is 1:1 may decide to administer the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 8/9 to all students on a single day. Another district or school may decide to administer the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 8/9 to smaller groups of students over several days given spacing and/or staffing constraints.

Note: If you have questions about your school's readiness for the transition to digital testing, complete a readiness check.

Students may only test once during the testing window, unless there is an irregularity (technical issue, significant testing disruption, etc.) that requires a student to retest. All testing must be completed by the end of the testing window.

  • For planning purposes, please allow just over 3 hours on test day to complete all testing related activities for standard test takers. Additional time will be required for students with extended time and other types of accommodations.
  • Include around 30 minutes on or before administration begins to ensure devices are ready for testing and for students to explore the Bluebook™ testing application with the test preview feature.

Score Release Details

There will be two student and educator score releases for the digital PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9:

A single Electronic Score Release (ESR) data file will be provided in mid-November.
