SAT Fee Waivers

If you're eligible for a fee waiver, you can take the SAT for free and get other benefits.

Getting a Fee Waiver

If you think you're eligible, talk to your school counselor about getting a fee waiver code or request a fee waiver directly from College Board.

If you choose to request a fee waiver directly from College Board, please:

  • Review the eligibility criteria.
  • Read the Fee Waiver: Student Self-Identification resource below for an overview of the process.
  • Be mindful of registration deadlines and request fee waivers early so you can apply those benefits in a timely manner. Please aim to submit your request as early as possible and at least 1–2 weeks before the registration deadline.
  • Be prepared to share the contact information of an adult who can verify your eligibility.
  • Talk to your school counselor if you have questions about the process.

Do you meet the eligibility criteria? If so, you can request a fee waiver directly from the College Board.

Important: When you're filling out the form, please double-check that your address is accurate and correctly formatted. You will see instructions on how to format data correctly on the form itself.

A complete, accurate, and correctly formatted address helps us review your fee waiver request more efficiently, and it helps you avoid issues with registration or submitting your scores to colleges and scholarships.

If your address is incomplete, inaccurate or incorrectly formatted, your fee waiver request will be delayed. If you need to update your address, you can do so in Account Settings before filling out the form.

By making sure you meet the eligibility criteria, it ensures we can continue to offer this benefit efficiently for qualified students. Providing false information about your eligibility for a fee waiver may ban you from taking future College Board assessments (including without limitation the SAT, Advanced Placement (AP) and CLEP Exams).

Homeschooled Students

If you're homeschooled, you can request a fee waiver directly from College Board. When doing so, enter the school on your My SAT profile as AI 970000 (School Name: Home School). You may also contact a local high school counselor to receive a fee waiver code, but you must provide proof of your eligibility (i.e., tax records or proof of enrollment in an aid program).
